Poway High School Society of Women Engineers Next Club (PHS SWENext) recently won the Design Lab Community Engagement Challenge Grand Prize Award. The challenge asked teams to develop a hands-on engineering activity for younger students addressing a specific community need – for PHS SWENext, this was a Girls in STEM Inspiration Day for girls and their families throughout the county.

Teams created videos to showcase their accomplishments, and the Poway team also won the People’s Choice Award, receiving the most public votes for their video submission.

PHS SWENext’s Design Lab Community Engagement Team included Ariana Van Dusen, Cece Gant, Elena Tomson, Lilian Rueckert, Sara Wilson, and Team Captain Madalyn Nguyen, as well as Co-Advisors Rodger Dohm and Dr. Tracy Nguyen. The team decided to donate their rewards to purchase supplies for the after-school STEAM program at Monarch School for homeless youths.
