PUSD Welcomes New Principal

Poway Unified School District’s Tierra Bonita Elementary School began the new semester with a new principal. Michele Ward previously served as Assistant Principal and CoPrincipal at Vista Innovation and Design Academy, supporting teachers and students in the Design Thinking process and project-based learning. Before that, she was an elementary school teacher in Carlsbad Unified School District for 10 years, and she has also taught in the Bay Area’s New Haven Unified School District.

“We were all impressed by her leadership and her work around innovation in Vista, as well as her beliefs around collaborative decision-making.”

“As an Apple Distinguished School, Tierra Bonita’s innovative and engaging learning environment is a perfect fit for Michele,” said Superintendent Dr. Marian Kim-Phelps. Apple Distinguished Schools are recognized for innovation and leadership in using technology to support learning – only 470 schools around the world hold this distinction from Apple. “We were all impressed by her leadership and her work around innovation in Vista, as well as her beliefs around collaborative decision-making. We look forward to her helping us take Tierra Bonita to the next level.”

Ms. Ward shared her excitement for the new year at Tierra Bonita. “Along with teachers and staff, I will work hard to make sure that our students are well-rounded, caring individuals prepared for a fast-changing future,” she said in a message to Tierra Bonita families. “I’m also looking forward to supporting students with more creative and innovative ways to meet student achievement, by focusing on inquiry, collaboration, and research, while developing connections to real world opportunities.”
