Garden Club’s Annual Flower Show Seeks Community Entries
41st Standard Flower Show
Poway Valley Garden Club (PVGC) invites gardeners throughout the community to take part in the club’s 41st Standard Flower Show. The show will be held Saturday, April 13, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Old Poway Park, and this year’s theme is “Through the Eyes of the Child.” It’s a kid-friendly event acknowledging PVGC’s Youth Garden Club. “The park is a bustling place with many events to capture the imagination of children as well as adults,” shared PVGC Publicity Chair Marcia Clingman. “Besides the educational value and beauty of the flower show, there will be train rides, farmers and crafters’ markets, and the museum to occupy one’s time.”
The show will also include the popular annual plant sale, with bargain prices and Master Gardeners on hand to answer any questions. Proceeds benefit the club’s work with community gardens, outreach, and education.
Community members can submit entries in a number of divisions. Register for the Design Division by calling Sylvia at 858-673-1222 by April 1. For questions about the Horticulture Division or the flower show in general, contact Emily at 858-748-1025.
There are also four photography classes for the Botanical Arts Division, with two upcoming submission dates: March 13 between 8:30 and 9:30 a.m. at Templars Hall, Old Poway Park, and March 27 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Panera Bread on Carmel Mountain Rd. Photography questions can be directed to Carolyn at 858-663-8112 or Laurie at 626-422-9886.
