Fernanda Fabian relishes being involved in her community. Born and raised in Poway, this talented teen is a recent graduate of Meadowbrook Middle School. At middle school, she had many opportunities to shine. “I have been recognized for achievements such as maintaining a 4.0 GPA for all three years at Meadowbrook, while still competing in rhythmic gymnastics and being a member of the national team for aesthetic group gymnastics in the U.S.,” shared Fernanda. She was also part of the AVID program, where she not only learned essential academic and real-world skills, but was the AVID Standout for 2018. Because of this program, she was able to attend a Poway Unified School District board meeting. “I learned so much about everything that happens ‘behind the scenes’ in order to keep our schools up and running,” she said.
“My two sisters are my best friends and are both very inspiring to me.”
School is not Fernanda’s only passion. She is an accomplished gymnast and participates in Aesthetic Group Gymnastics, which is a combination of dance, acrobatics, and gymnastics. “We have already competed in Finland, Canada, and Budapest,” related Fernanda, “and have won the title of Best in North America and 14th in the world.” She was also the lead singer in a band called Sweet Chaos and performed at December Nights in Balboa Park as their first gig. Finally, she served as the fourth ever Miss Junior Teen Poway for an entire year. “As Miss Junior Teen Poway 2017, I attended my first city council meeting, and met all the amazing people that keep our community safe and clean,” she said.
