The Poway Valley Garden Club’s annual Standard Flower Show will be held Saturday, April 14 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Old Poway Park. This year’s theme is Celebrate San Diego, and visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy the wide variety of contest entries. The show has four divisions: Horticulture, featuring plants that grow well locally; Designs, which explore how plant material can be incorporated into homes; Special Exhibits, featuring educational displays; and Creative Crafts, which includes photography. The photography category was a new – and very popular – addition last year.

The accompanying plant sale is the club’s largest of the year and includes succulent dish gardens and seedlings grown by the Poway Valley Youth Garden Club. The club’s artisan group also provides garden-related craft items for sale. Club members are on-hand to give advice on how to care for your new plants.
