Poway High School Students Headed for World Competition
Team Spyder Robotics
Team Spyder, Poway High School’s FIRST Robotics Team, is proud to qualify for the International Worldwide Championship FIRST Robotics Competition for the 10th time. This year’s worldwide competition will be held April 18 to 22 in Houston, TX.
The team made it to the quarter finals at the recent San Diego regional competition, placing 24th out of 66 teams. Team Spyder won the Engineering Inspiration Award at the event, which celebrates success in promoting engineering within the school and broader community and qualifies the team for the world championship – including the $5,000 registration fee donated by NASA. Team Spyder also won the Underwriters Laboratories Industrial Safety Award, which recognizes teams that avoid or protect against engineering hazards using innovative techniques.
Team Spyder next flew to University of Hawaii at Manoa for the Hawaii Regional, where they
picked up more accolades for entrepreneurship and industrial safety. Upcoming Team Spyder events also include a trip to Calgary, Canada for the Canadian Rockies Regional in
Outside of competition, Team Spyder is dedicated to promoting STEM subjects on and off campus. The team developed the school’s Engineering Academy and participates in fairs, parades, government events, and news programs. Learn more at www.teamspyder.org.
