Celebrate Women Authors at Benefit Luncheon
Cover to Cover
The 21st Annual Cover to Cover event will bring together a full house of guests from throughout the community to celebrate women authors on Saturday, May 5 at Maderas Golf Club. The luncheon is American Association of University Women (AAUW) Poway-Peñasquitos Branch’s signature annual event, and this year will include opportunity baskets, drawings, book signings, book sales, and the main event – presentations from authors Michelle Gable, Shilpi Somaya Gowda, and Susan Carol McCarthy.
San Diego native Michelle Gable is the author of A Paris Apartment, I’ll See You in Paris, The Book of Summer, and the upcoming The Summer I Met Jack. Her latest novel is based on a true story and centers around a young Polish refugee who begins working as a maid for the Kennedys.
Shilpi Somaya Gowda was born in Toronto and now lives in San Diego with her family. She is the author of Secret Daughter – a tale following a girl’s birth and adoptive families over 20 years – and The Golden Son, about a young Indian doctor who embarks on a residency in the U.S.
Carlsbad resident Susan Carol McCarthy has published three novels – Lay That Trumpet In Our Hands, True Fires, and A Place We Knew Well – and one work of nonfiction, Boomers 101: The Definitive Collection. Her third novel, A Place We Knew Well, draws on memories of a normal Florida family during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
