AAUW Poway-Peñasquitos Branch will hold its 20th Annual Cover to Cover: Stepping into Spring event at the Maderas Golf Club on Saturday, May 13, from 8:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. The popular event includes a luncheon, silent auction, opportunity baskets, book sales, and presentations from three Southern California authors: Jill G. Hall, Aline Ohanesian, and Ona Russell. About 200 guests are expected to attend.
Jill G. Hall’s 2015 debut novel, The Black Velvet Coat, was a #1 Amazon Bestseller and an International Book Award Finalist for Best New Fiction. She is the past board president of San Diego Writers, Ink and currently chairs the Creative Catalyst Program for Individual Artists at the San Diego Foundation. Aline Ohanesian’s debut novel, Orhan’s Inheritance, is an international bestseller and has been translated into over 10 languages. The book was a finalist for the Dayton Peace Prize, the PEN Bellwether Award for Socially Engaged Fiction, the Center for Fiction First Novel Prize, and is currently shortlisted for the Dublin International Literary Prize. Ona Russell is the author of three award-winning Sarah Kaufman historical mysteries, including O’Brien’s Desk, The Natural Selection, and Rule of Capture: A Historical Mystery.
AAUW seeks to advance equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research in order to lay a foundation for stronger families and a skilled workforce. Proceeds from Cover to Cover support two major projects: Tech Trek, a STEM camp for eighth grade girls held on the UCSD campus each summer, and Re-Entry Scholarships for local women returning to college.
