The City of Poway was recently named the 16th safest city in California by Safewise, an organization that rates the 50 safest cities in states around the country every year. The 2016 ranking is a 10-spot jump up from #26 in 2015. The 50 Safest Cities in California list is based on the most recent FBI Crime Report and population statistics in cities with 11,000 residents or more. Final ratings evaluate reported property and violent crimes occurring per 1,000 people in each city. According to Safewise, over half of California’s safest cities had fewer than 20 violent crimes during the FBI’s most recent reporting period, and 17 of the 20 cities reported zero incidents of murder.

In addition to the Safewise ranking, Poway was named the safest city in San Diego County in a report released by the San Diego Association of Governments (SDAG) in March.
