Two Poway High Students Among Six performing Finalists
2016 RB Chorale Scholarship
The RB Chorale will present its 43rd Anniversary Show, Showstoppers from Stage & Screen, this month. The highlight of the two-night event will be the competition by the finalists of the Chorale’s annual scholarship auditions. These six graduating high school seniors from across San Diego County were chosen from a slate of 13 multi-talented teens. Besides being musicians of great promise, all six have achieved many significant honors and awards during the school years and are active volunteers in their local community.
Among the finalists are Poway High School students and pianists Amber Schumann and Kristine Llanderal. Amber plans to attend Brigham Young University in Provo, UT in the fall, with a double major in music with an emphasis in piano and organ performance and statistics. Her dream is to accompany the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, and she hopes to teach music one day. Aside from music, she also enjoys equestrian activities and photography.
Kristine intends to pursue a degree in music education and conducting at the University of Redlands in Redlands, CA. In addition to studying piano, Kristine enjoys singing with chorale groups, playing the clarinet, and has been the drum major for the past two years in Poway High’s Emerald Brigade Marching Band.
Both Amber and Kristine will perform on the first night of the competition. A total of $10,000 will be divided up among the six finalists, with $2,500 going to the top spots each night. Final amounts will be decided by audience vote. For details about the event visit www.rbchorale.org or www.facebook.com/therbchorale.
