Perfectly Placed in Poway

Two decades ago, Rich and Kerry Sotelo relocated to Poway for the great schools. They knew they would be starting a family soon and were drawn to the great reputation of the Poway Unified School District. They quickly learned “that it came along with great neighbors,” the couple said. Now with two children, Dylan and Sophie, the Sotelo family loves calling the Garden Road area of Poway home. “We love living in this area nestled in the back corner of Poway because it has everything you need: shopping, restaurants, great schools, and the best neighbors,” Rich and Kerry explained.

Rich, a native of San Diego, is a project manager for Lyons Warren Engineers + Architects. Kerry grew up in Ventura County and moved south to San Diego after high school. She has worked for Petco Animal Supplies since 1995 in a variety of roles and, today, is a financial analyst for the company.

Their oldest son Dylan is graduating from Poway High School this year and attending Boise State University in the fall to study gaming, interactive media, and mobile technology. “He hopes to use the skills he develops in college to create serious games along with games that will entertain,” his parents explained. During his time at Poway High School, Dylan was on the academic team all four years and held roles in three school plays. Sophie, a second grader at Garden Road Elementary, is affectionately known as Sparkle, the name her older brother suggested when she was born. She loves softball, which she has been playing since she was five years old.

What began as the desire to live within a great school district for the Sotelo family has turned into becoming part of the fabric of a community they love to call home.
