Poway Center for the Performing Arts Foundation  brings the 2013-2014 Professional Performance Series to a close with a performance from Presidio BrassThe quintet will perform their Sounds of the Cinema  on Saturday, May 31, at 8 p.m.

Since 2006, Presidio Brass has rocketed to success as the face of a bold new generation in brass entertainment. By combining a brass quintet, piano and percussion instruments with fresh, original arrangements, this Yamaha Performing Ensemble from San Diego, California has developed a truly unique sound.

Celebrating the world of Hollywood, Sounds of the Cinema is a performance filled with jazz and classical music and entertaining selections from popular film soundtracksperformed with a good dose of wit and humor that together have become hallmarks of their concerts. Audiences and music critics agree, Sounds of the Cinema is “Two Thumbs Up” and a “Must See!”

The members of the Presidio Brass (Jeff Harrigan, trombone; Mike McCoy, horn; Steve O’Connor, trumpet; Scott Sutherland, tuba/piano and Dr. Timothy J. Tesh, trumpet) have performed with major symphony orchestras, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Las Vegas Philharmonic, Pacific Symphony and San Diego Symphony. When not on tour, they continue to perform with orchestras, maintain private teaching studios at local universities, arrange and compose new music, assist with public school music programs, and operate an annual summer music camp for students of all ages in San Diego.   Presidio Brass has performed in over 40 states, conducted master classes at many of America’s finest colleges and universities, and been featured on National Public Radio.

POW Foundation Arts in Education Initiative presented by AT&T

As part of the  Arts in Education Initiative, Presidio Brass will conduct a Master Class for the Poway High School Wind Ensemble on May 15 on stage at the Poway Center for the Performing Arts.  The quintet will perform for the students, speak about their backgrounds and training, and discuss practice techniques, including a systematic approach to learning the solo trumpet part of “The Green Hornet”.  The Poway High Wind Ensemble will appear with Presidio Brass as special guests at the May 31 performance.
